On the death of Guyanese author and philanthropist Norman Henry.

Guyanese author, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Norman Henry passed away on November 21st 2010.

Henry was born into poverty and worked on a sugar plantation in Guyana along with his mother, an East Indian indentured servant.

He later made his way first to Guyana’s capital city, Georgetown and years later, to the United States.

Henry was a former member of Guyana police force.

He authored Adversity Is Temporary, a captivating memoir reveling the pain, shame, eventual triumph and joy of an impoverished mixed-race boy.

Henry served as Grand Marshal of the West Indian American Day Parade and was honored by the Guyana Folk Festival Association among many others.
